Residencies - Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions - Residency IDC |
Isla de Crear is a creative centre, guided by the Fantasism manifesto, dedicated to the exploration of art and craft.
The centre is run by Sebastian Rex and Alexander Mueller, in Úbeda.
We are located in the middle of the Sea of Olives with no neighbours for miles, but we are by a main road just outside Úbeda, a UNESCO world heritage site and home to a buzzing community of artisan craftspeople and a lot of cultural events.
Terms and Conditions
Living arrangements
All participants will have their own private en-suite bedroom (with a shower), in a shared property. There are plenty of spaces both indoors and out to create and be inspired. All activities will be arranged with the other creatives and the team that lives in the property. Creatives are also required to adhere to cleanliness and behave in a courteous and non-discriminative fashion.
Fees and Additional Expenses
Participation fee for the artistic residency is:
2 weeks: €545 + 10% VAT (TOTAL: €599.50)
3 weeks: €772.70 + 10% VAT (TOTAL: €849.97)
4 weeks: €1,000 + 10% VAT (TOTAL: €1,100.00)
Creatives should cover the participation fee, their travel costs, insurance, daily expenses, and cost of production of personal works beyond supplies provided by the residency. The residency is in a rural area, however there is the option to visit small local art stores or order from art supply stores online for rapid delivery.
As we offer multidisciplinary residencies, we can offer you a basic range of tools for a variety of mediums, however, in case of loss and damages, creatives need to cover the costs. Please, contact us to clarify anything related to your production.
Payments
Selected creatives will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of €300 for each month, within 10 days of their acceptance to secure their place. This deposit will be returned at the end of the residency, upon inspection of the rooms used, assuming there were no damages. The payment for the full residency should be paid when arriving to start the residency. All online payments must be done via bank transfers to an EU account or through Wise.
Residency Period and Transportation
The residency period is a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 4 weeks. The organisers can help advise creatives on their travels and arrivals per request, but all expenses are the sole responsibility of the creative.
Please do not finalise any travel arrangements before discussing with the organisers.
Isla de Crear will be providing a pick-up/drop-off service only from Úbeda bus station, Úbeda-Jodar train station or Linares-Baeza train station. If you require a pick-up/drop-off to/from a different location, a fee will be asked to cover the additional fuel expenses. Prices will depend on the station/airport and information will be provided upon request.
Feedback Sessions
It is mandatory for creatives to attend weekly sessions with our curator. The dates of the sessions will be determined when the residency starts.
No Smoking Policy
Smoking is not permitted in any part of the buildings nor in outdoor areas apart from a dedicated smoking area. Should it be brought to our attention that smoking has taken place, the creative will receive a formal warning followed by a cleaning fee of €200.
Copyright Policy
Isla de Crear includes a variety of materials, objects and projects created by different members of the artist-in-residence team. Although these works may be freely accessible on the World Wide Web and may not include any statement about copyright, the works are nevertheless protected by copyright. Users must assume that works are protected by copyright until they learn otherwise.
Photo Release
Creatives hereby consent to photographs, sound recordings, and reproductions in any other manner (including video and audio) of the likeness, voice, and activities of the creative at the engagement and further authorises the residency to make unlimited use of such reproductions, including for, but not limited to, advertising, publicising, documenting, distributing, exhibiting, and broadcasting to the public over the radio, television, film, internet, social media or any other means, media, devices, processes, and technology now or hereafter known. All credits will be given to creatives accordingly. Creatives are asked to provide organisers with written and visual materials for a social media post promoting the individual creative prior to their stay, as well as documentation on any visual works created during the residency, after the fact.
Insurance
Prior to commencing the residency, creatives must procure, maintain, and pay for insurance against claims for injuries to persons or damage to the property that may arise from or in connection with the residency. We cannot take responsibility for personal illness, injuries, or accidents. Nor can we take responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings. Please make sure you have adequate travel and health insurance.
Room Occupancy & Extra Guests
If the creative is traveling with a spouse or a friend, they have to bear all the costs associated with this travel, including extra fees, the insurance, and damages that may occur from the stay. The plus-one (non-creative) can only share the creative’s room with an extra fee of €200 per week. Please note that extra guests cannot use the studios, nor the materials provided in the property, and will not be considered a “creative resident”. However, they can attend to other activities that are not part of the programme.
In case of creatives coming in groups, we will ask for a full-payment from each participant. Discounts for groups of three or more are offered, please get in touch for more information.
Cleaning
Creatives are required to ensure their rooms (living and working) are kept clean and returned in the same state they were when receiving them. They are also required to help clean the communal parts of the building once a week (usually on a Friday).
Defense and Indemnification
Creatives agree to defend, indemnify, protect, and hold harmless the residency, its agents, officers, boards, and commissions, and employees from and against any and all liability, claims, demands, damages, or costs, including but not limited to legal fees, or payments for injury to any person or property caused or claimed to be caused by errors or omissions of the residency employees, agents, or officers.
Discrimination
Creatives may not discriminate in the provision of services hereunder because of race, colour, religion, nationality, ancestry, age, sex/sexual orientation, marital status, or disability.
Eviction
The residency has the right to evict creatives who are not following the aforementioned rules. In case of any violation, creatives will be asked to change their behaviour. If the behaviour hasn’t been changed since the initial warning, creatives will be asked to leave the property immediately. No refund will be issued to an evicted artist.
